The Effect of Travel
Wow, look at that graph. Things were going along quite smoothly until late last week. As you can see, my weight started to swing wildly up and down. The reason is that I have been traveling.
Travel results in the following three things happening to my body:
- Dehydration. The air on an airplane is extremely dry. Even though I drank quite a bit of water, I still got dehydrated. I noticed that my weight dropped way down on both of the days after I had flown. I set a new record low yesterday (after flying) and then gained 2.6 pounds in one day! I didn't realize this was due to dehydration at first, so I happily ate up to my alloted budget on those days, thinking I had lost a bunch of weight all the sudden. When I rehydrated and ate a bunch of low-fiber food to boot, that led to weight gain and...
- Constipation. I'll spare you the details. You know how it is when you travel...
- Lack of exercise. Almost all data points until now have been taken after a nice five mile jog. Granted, the weight loss due to the jog is mostly water, but even so it affects the baseline measurement. When I don't jog for a few days I probably put on a few ounces. And a few ounces at this point will definitely show up.
